This is Bigger Than My Story
Issue 05
The Lead
There was a moment somewhere in the middle of writing the book when everything shifted.
Not the beginning. The beginning was its own kind of moment. 4 a.m., wide awake, the quiet certainty that something inside me needed to come out. That was the framework revealing itself. Years of experience, observation, and lived tension weaving together into something that had apparently been under construction my entire life without my full awareness. That is how it works for most of us. The framework does not arrive fully formed. It gets built quietly, through every season you survive and every identity you outgrow.
I started writing. The chapters came. The experiences flooded in faster than I could organize them.
But that was the book.
What happened later was different. Quieter in some ways. More significant in others.
I was somewhere in the middle of pulling it all together when I had a second realization. Not about the framework, but about what the framework was actually for. I remember the thought with unusual clarity because of how abruptly it reoriented everything I was doing.
I'm not just writing a book. I'm building something people can truly use.
Because here is what I had been circling without naming: every professional is going through this. Not some of them. Not the ones who are visibly struggling or publicly in transition. All of them. The executive who looks completely composed in the boardroom and drives home wondering if this is still the right chapter. The high performer whose numbers are strong and whose energy is quietly depleting. The leader who has outgrown an identity they are still performing because nobody has given them a clean way to name what they are feeling.
My story was the entry point. It was never meant to be the destination. If you have been reading these issues and feeling like this framework belongs to your life too, you are exactly right. That is not a coincidence. That is the design.
That realization changed what I was building. The book became the foundation. Zone Shift Enterprises became the vehicle. And the platform, the newsletter you are reading, the keynote, the workshops, the advisory work, became the way to make the framework useful to people who need it, not just readable to people who find it interesting.
The Reframe
The work I do with leaders and organizations has a name. The keynote is called The Identity Tax: What Comfort Is Costing Your Leadership.
If you have been reading this newsletter, you already know the territory. The comfortable story. The lag between who you have been and who the next season requires. The tax that runs quietly while everything on the outside still looks stable. The smallest move that changes what you can see from where you are standing.
The keynote takes that territory into rooms: leadership offsites, executive retreats, conferences, corporate stages. It makes it actionable for the people in them. Not as inspiration. As a practical framework for leaders and organizations who are ready to move.
The book, The Zone Shift, is forthcoming. When it arrives it will give the framework the full depth it deserves: the research, the stories, the tools, and the language for every stage of the shift.
The advisory work, the consulting, the workshops—those don't wait for the book. They exist right now, for leaders and organizations who are ready.
This platform exists because the framework is bigger than my story. But my story is how you find your way into it. That has always been the design.
One Question
What would you build if you stopped waiting for the framework to be perfect and trusted that the thing you have been carrying is already useful to someone?
The Shift
The 4 a.m. moment was the revelation. Zone Shift Enterprises was the decision.
One showed me what I had. The other showed me what to do with it.
Both were necessary. And neither one arrived until I was willing to stop performing the chapter I was in and start writing the next one.
Welcome to the shift.
